At Band Buzz, our mission is simple: to provide you, educators, students, and lifelong learners, with valuable resources that will strengthen your professional lives. We’re here to help you with music education advice, teaching strategies, and a whole range of resources to enhance your teaching experience.
Now, let’s rewind a bit and take a journey through my growth as a professional. It all started in Northern Virginia, where I currently teach middle school band. Living in beautiful Leesburg, I found my passion for music education and decided to create Band Buzz to share my knowledge and experiences with you.
But let’s not dwell on the past too much. We all make mistakes, right? It’s those mistakes that help us grow and learn. Speaking of growth, let’s fast forward to high school, where I attended Quartz High School in sunny southern California. It was there that I discovered the depth of life and stumbled upon the school’s band. Little did I know that joining the band would lead me to one of the most influential teachers in my life, John McQuilkin.
College was the next step in my journey, and I enrolled at Louisiana State University as a music education major. During my time there, I actively participated in the LSU Tiger Band and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. It was a period of immense growth, both personally and professionally.
As a rookie band director in a small rural community in North West Louisiana, I quickly realized that real-world experiences can’t always be taught in college. But every victory in the classroom became a reason to celebrate, and my adorable puppies kept me sane throughout those early years.
I continued to grow professionally, teaching in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Manassas, Virginia. Along the way, I pursued further education and obtained two masters degrees, one in Music Education and the other in Management. And of course, I found the love of my life and asked her to be my wife. Luckily, she said yes, and we’ve been living happily ever after!
So here I am, fueled by a passion for music education and a desire to share my knowledge with you. Band Buzz is all about innovation, content, and collaboration. I believe in the power of transference, taking practical techniques from various disciplines and applying them to benefit my music students. And I’m here to assist anyone who seeks help and guidance in these areas.
